According to a post by SCEA Marketing Manager Mark Valledor over at the official PlayStation blog, he quotes a note regarding the new update, and we learn that it will provide three main changes: first, players will now have more options for customizing battle animations, second, five select Set 2 cards will be adjusted (in what way, we’re not really sure), and third, the team is adding new features centering on intentional disconnects during online play. Basically, if your opponent voluntarily drops out of an online duel, you will receive Honor and Rank points, whereas before you received nothing. This latter change should satisfy plenty of players, because for the time being, if you’re on the verge of victory and your opponent leaves, you receive no rewards for all your effort. How frustrating is that?

The game generated an estimated revenue of $390 million, exceeding Halo 3´s $280 million launch week. Worldwide sales split 4:3 in favour of the Xbox 360 while the Playstation 3 version saw a higher attach rate.

America saw sales of more than 3.7 million units during the first week of the game’s release. Europe experienced strong sales, as well – roughly 2.2 million Europeans purchased the game during the same timeframe. (1.25 million on Playstation 3; 0.95 million on Xbox 360)

Grand Theft Auto IV also had a big affect on hardware sales: Playstation 3 sales nearly doubled compared to the week before, while Xbox 360 sales jumped roughly 70%.

Grand Theft Auto IV is considered the most expensive game of all time, with estimated development costs of $100 million. The game is likely to hit the 10 million units sales mark during the next months.

The terrain and whether on The Island are slightly hostile, you see. It’s BRUTAL out there, with destructible trees and foliage growing all over the place, which you can cut through instead of using the track.

The larger the vehicles, the greater effect they’ll have on the environment. So take a small bike and you’ll have to follow the bigger vehicles if you want to make use of the short-cuts. You just won’t be BRUTAL enough to do it yourself.

To help, they’ll be a new vehicle in the sequel, in the form of a Monster Truck. “The Monster Truck is a climber,” said Hollywood, “it’s a predator – it just wants to crush other vehicles. You’re here to bully everyone else”. That’s pretty BRUTAL.

At the show Ted Price, president of Insomniac Games commented that in the game the much hyped eight-player co-op mode will boast it’s own story, and will not just be weird cutscene-less version of the single player mode. Apparently, characters in this mode will all have there own unique story progression and rewards as well.

From there he went on to focus on the multiplayer aspect of the game, revealing that even though battles will be massive with up to 60 player options available, the developers are still focusing on intimacy. “Battles within battles” are a huge part of the multiplayer he commented. A new GPS style map was also shown as part of the HUD in a demo of the game, but Price did not comment about it directly.

He also revealed that the version of the game demoed at the show was still a work in progress, and that Resistance 2 is still “Six months away from appearing on shelves.”
